Three books are currently available in the West about Sri Shivabalayogi:

In the Footsteps of the Yogi: the 1999 U.S. Tour of Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj, compiled and edited by Ramcharandas. This is the first book published about Sri Swamiji in America. The book contains two main sections. The first is a chronicle of the 1999 tour, including a two-week retreat in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and Swamiji's meetings with devotees during visits to U.S. cities. The second part is question-and-answer sessions with Sri Swamiji recorded at the retreat. Additionally, the book contains Sri Swamiji's own detailed description of the benefits of dhyan, an introduction to the book by Indian devotees, and accounts of mystical experiences from American devotees attending programs. The book may be ordered through the 1st Books Library website either as downloadable text from the internet or as a quality paperback that will be sent to the purchaser's mailing address. Tapas Shakti. $15, hardcover, available from the North Carolina Trust. This book contains a rare and detailed account of a yogi's tapas together with Sri Shivabalayogi's biography. It contains translations of his conversations on a wide variety of subjects such as meditation, world conditions, yogis, and spiritual leaders. Also collected here are personal experiences of some of the many thousands of lives Sri Shivabalayogi has transformed. Compiled and edited by Thomas L. Palotas and published by the Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj Trust in Bangalore, India.

The Living Yogi. $12, soft cover, available from the North Carolina Trust. This book was written at the request of Sri Shivabalayogi after taking mahasamadhi. Written by a devotee who witnessed the event first-hand, it documents the final days of Sri Shivabalayogi before leaving his body and his continued presence afterwards. It also includes the 108 names of Sri Shivabalayogi that are sung or recited at sacred ceremonies. There is also a question-and-answer section conducted with Sri Swamiji in his present body. Written by Thomas L. Palotas and published by the Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj Trust in Bangalore, India.

Additional Yogic Literature. Additional literature on the yogic lore of India may be read to gain insight into the teachings of Sri Shivabalayogi. Often he would refer readers to the Yoga Vasistha, one of the longest books ever written and the story of teachings given to Rama, incarnation of Lord Vishnu, by his guru. An abridged edition entitled Vasistha's Yoga is available from the State University of New York Press. Sri Swamiji has referred devotees to such books as Swami Muktananda's Play of Consciousness, Swami Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, and the writings of Sri Lahiri Mahasaya, a devotee of the mysterious Babaji. A worthwhile shorter account of the Indian teachings is Jewel in the Lotus: Deeper Aspects of Hinduism by Mumtaz Ali (Sterling Publishers Ltd., New Delhi). For detailed information on the path of bhakti, or spiritual devotion, see the published writings of Swami Ramdas, a saint of Kerala. A western spiritual master in the yogic tradition was Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov (1900-1986), who was born in Bulgaria and taught in France and whose transcribed discourses are available through Prosveta S.A.
